Anesthesia Free Teeth Cleaning

Here’s a breakdown of what a non-anesthetic teeth cleaning appointment is like for your dog or cat upon arriving at My Pet Naturally Clean Grooming Salon.

Gentle Introduction:

Our technicians take the time to assure that your pet is comfortable in the room at the grooming salon where their teeth will be cleaned. Before beginning the procedure, and during the entire procedure, we work to maintain your pet’s comfort and safety.

Complete Oral examination:

We examine the entire mount for any abnormalities, making sure your pet does not need an anesthetic dental cleaning for any reason.

Hand Scaling:

Using hand tools, we remove the Plaque, Tartar and Calculus built up on the surface of each tooth and subgingival deposits.

Ultra Sonic Scaling:

Using a small machine that irrigates the gums with water and an antibacterial solution, we gentlly remove diseased tissue and plaque from the pockets around the gums. This promotes healing and readaptation of the tissue to the tooth surface.

Polishing:

We smooth the surface of each individual tooth using pumice paste.

Post Cleaning Examination:

Once your pet’s teeth are clean, we check each tooth one more time to make sure all plaque, tartar and calculus are gone.

Smile:

Your pet is ready to share his gleaming, healthy smile with the world. No wonder his tail is wagging.

Charting:

A last bit of work for us. We chart your dog’s dental profile, and record missing, loose, fractures and/or discolored teeth as well as feline ondontoclastic resorptive lesions, periodontal pocket depth, gingival recession and other significant lesions. We cover everything we’ve done and what you can do to keep your pet’s teeth in tiptop shape in your after treatment consultation.

Once in a great while:

There is absolutely no charge if we are unable to clean your pet’s teeth.

About our Dental Technicians

In the past, veterinarians were convinced that performing prophys (teeth cleaning) without the use of anesthesia was an impossibility. Scaling below the gumline as well as the use of a polishing machine were assumed to be procedures an unanethetised pet would not tolerate. In fact, a combination of calm, gentle demeanor on the part of the tech and the use of proprietary “holds” developed for use in non-anesthetic dentistry create a willingness in unanesthetized pets to comfortably tolerate both procedures.

As a result, our well trained Non-Anesthetic Dental Technicians (NAD Techs) can do as thorough a job of cleaning your pet’s teeth as a traditional veterinary technician. The difference in approach, defined by extreme patience and gentle handling of your pet, is what make our NAD technicians successful. We are able to gain the trust and confidence of your pet, allowing us to perform complete prophys including subgingival scaling, as well as machine polishing.

In addition, our NAD technicians have a solid knowledge of the oral cavity in both cats and dogs, and are able to recognize pathological tooth abnormalities that may cause further health problems in pets. Each pet owner receives from their technician an after treatment consutation and record which includes:

· Dental care performed or declined, and prognosis

· Follow-up recommendations

· Antibiotic recommendations

· When the next dental exam is recommended

· Home care instructions
